Chamber of Commerce
Higgins Lake-Roscommon Area Chamber of Commerce serves its community by “promot[ing] and enhanc[ing] the business and economic development in our area, encouraging good will and communication among members and the community in an environmentally responsible manner.” They host annual fishing competitions, fireworks, Art Festivals, Business Expo, and Winterfest.
Roscommon Area Public Schools are comprised of Roscommon High, Roscommon Middle, and Roscommon Elementary. Their Elementary has a Great Start Readiness Program for pre-school aged children within the same building.
Higgins Lake area shares a school district with Houghton Lake, in its Houghton Lake Community Schools. This district offers Collins Elementary, Houghton Lake Middle School, Houghton Lake High School, and Houghton Lake Community Education Center, which provides Adult- and Alternative- Education resources.
A stone’s throw away in St. Helen, Charleton Heston Academy offers private education from Pre-K to 12th grade, and focuses on college and career readiness. Free College courses are offered here free through Lake Superior State University and Jackson College.
Kirtland Community College is a Roscommon-based institution; they offer online-online coursework, computer and classroom combination courses, and home-based or campus labs. Their Application process is free, and they “offer 39 degrees and certificates including three transfer associate degrees.”
